¿Barefoot significa caminar descalzo?
05Adaptación y usos
¿Cómo empiezo a usar calzado barefoot?

What would you like to know?
01About barefoot footwear
What is barefoot footwear?
It is a shoe designed to respect the natural shape of the foot and allow it to move freely. It usually has a wide toe box, a flexible sole, and little to no height difference between the heel and the forefoot.
Does barefoot mean walking barefoot?
Barefoot literally means without shoes, but barefoot footwear still has a sole and an upper that protect the foot. The feel and level of protection depend on the model.
What is the drop?
It is the difference in height between the heel and the front of the foot. A shoe with zero drop keeps both areas at the same height. The drop does not indicate the total thickness of the sole.
Does zero drop mean that the sole is too thin?
No. The drop describes the difference between the heel and the forefoot, while the thickness indicates how much material is under the foot. They are different characteristics.
Why is the toe box wider?
The anatomical toe box gives the toes room to spread without being compressed. The heel and instep should remain secure so the foot does not slide inside the shoe.
Are all wide shoes barefoot?
No. Width is only one feature. You should also consider the shape of the toe box, flexibility, drop, sole thickness and overall fit.
02VOLKAN KNARY and its models
What makes VOLKAN KNARY footwear different?
We design our footwear with a shape that respects the anatomy of the foot. We select the materials, test each proposal in real use and include two sets of insoles so you can adapt the feel of the shoe.
Who is behind VOLKAN KNARY?
VOLKAN KNARY was born from the experience of Enrique, an active tourism businessman, and Javier, a podiatrist specialized in biomechanics. Both have been wearing barefoot shoes for more than 15 years.
What's so special about Tajogaite?
Tajogaite is our line of sneakers with a sole that incorporates volcanic ash. Its design unites an anatomical shape with an identity linked to the Canary Islands and its volcanic land.
Does volcanic ash have therapeutic effects?
We do not attribute therapeutic effects to volcanic ash. It is a component of the Tajogaite sole and a part of the identity of this line.
What is Maho intended for?
Maho is designed for the gym and daily life. Its sole incorporates polygonal geometry studs designed to provide grip in different directions. The final grip also depends on the surface and its condition.
Which model should you choose?
The choice depends on the use, the terrain, your experience with barefoot and the shape of your foot. Consult the details of each model or write to us indicating what you need it for and the measurements of both feet.
03Materials and insoles
What are the soles made of?
We use 100% natural rubber as the base of our soles. The Tajogaite line also incorporates volcanic ash. The specific composition may vary depending on the model.
What materials are used in the upper part?
Depending on the model and variant, we use leather or fabrics selected for their quality and breathability. The product sheet indicates the materials of each option.
Are all models vegan?
No. There are leather variants and others in fabric. Consult the product sheet or ask us about the specific model to check all its components.
Which insoles are included?
Each pair includes two sets of insoles: transition insoles with drop and flat insoles with zero drop. You can also wear the shoes without insoles if the fit and your adaptation allow it.
Which insole should I start with?
If you have never worn barefoot or zero-drop footwear, you can start with the transition insoles and wear the shoes for short periods. Follow any specific advice given by your healthcare professional.
Do I eventually have to use the flat insoles?
No. There is no compulsory final setup. You can keep using the transition insoles or gradually try the flat ones if they feel comfortable.
Can I use my orthopedic insoles?
Yes, provided they fit correctly and leave enough room for your feet. The included insoles are normally removed before prescribed orthotic insoles are inserted. Consult your podiatrist before changing how you use them.
04Size and fit
How should I measure my feet?
Measure both feet standing and with the weight distributed. Note the length from the heel to the longest toe and the width of the widest area. If you draw the outline on paper, keep the pencil vertical.
Do I order my usual size?
Your usual size serves as a reference, but it may change between models and brands. Always compare the measurements of both feet with the size guide of the model you want to buy.
What do I do if I am between two sizes?
Check the length, width, instep and support of the model. Going up a size does not always improve the fit. If you have questions, send us the measurements of both feet and the model you are interested in.
What do I do if one foot is bigger than the other?
Choose taking into account the foot that needs the most space and check that the other is well supported. Always try the complete pair and walk in it before deciding.
How much space should be left in front of the toes?
There should be room to move the toes without the foot slipping inside the shoe. Use the model-specific guide, because some tables already include the necessary clearance.
How do I know if the shoes fit me?
Try it on with the socks and insoles you are going to use. Walk, turn and stop. The toes should move without pressure and the heel should remain supported, without rubbing or sliding.
I have wide feet, will it work for me?
The anatomical shape offers more space in the toe area, but you must also check the width and volume of the foot. Compare your measurements with the model guide.
I have a narrow foot, can I use it?
Yes, if the closure and shape of the model correctly support the instep and heel. The foot should not move inside the shoe when walking.
It's a little tight, will it loosen with use?
It is not advisable to rely on the shoe to give way to correct clear pressure. If you notice discomfort when trying it on, check the size, width, inner height or model.
05Adaptation and uses
How do I start wearing barefoot shoes?
Start with short, comfortable periods, alternating with your usual footwear. Increase the time of use little by little and pay attention to how you feel during and after use.
How long does the adaptation last?
There is no same deadline for everyone. It depends on the footwear you used before, your activity and your sensations. Move forward gradually and without forcing.
Can I wear them all day the first time?
If it means a major change for you, it is preferable to start with short periods of time. Choose a first use that you can interrupt if tiredness or discomfort appears.
Is it normal to notice the ground more?
Yes, especially if you are used to highly cushioned footwear. You can begin with the transition insoles and wear the shoes for short periods. If you feel pain, stop using them and check the fit.
Do I have to change the way I walk?
Don't force a specific step. Walk comfortably and naturally. If you have pain or doubts about your gait, consult a professional.
Can I use it in the gym?
Yes, as long as the model is suitable for the activity you do. Maho is geared towards the gym and everyday use. Also check the fit and your adaptation.
Can I run with barefoot shoes?
First check that the model is designed for running. Being comfortable when walking does not mean being adapted to running. Increase the distance gradually and consult a professional if you have injuries or concerns.
Can I use it for hiking or mountains?
It depends on the model, the terrain and the protection you need. Review the Trail line sheet and assess the distance, type of surface and your experience before choosing.
Is it waterproof?
Waterproofing depends on the model and its materials. A breathable fabric or a mountain sole alone does not make the shoe waterproof. Consult the product sheet.
Is it non-slip?
The grip changes depending on the tread of the sole, the surface and its condition. If you need non-slip certification to work, check the model's technical data sheet before purchasing.
06Health and comfort
Do barefoot shoes correct bunions?
No. They do not correct an existing bunion. A well-fitting toe box may reduce pressure and rubbing in that area. If you have pain or broken skin, consult your podiatrist.
Can I use it if I have plantar fasciitis?
The choice must adapt to your case. Transition insoles are not a treatment nor do they replace a therapeutic insole. Consult your professional before changing shoes.
Does it correct flat feet or back pain?
There is no guarantee that footwear will correct flat feet or eliminate back pain. If you have discomfort, it is advisable to evaluate the cause with a professional.
My feet hurt when using it, is it part of the adaptation?
You don't have to endure pain to adapt. Stop using it and check the fit. If the pain persists, is intense or you cannot put your foot down, seek a health evaluation.
Can I use it if I have diabetes?
Follow the instructions of your healthcare team, especially if you have loss of sensitivity, circulation problems or wounds. Toe space alone does not guarantee the protection you need.
07Cleaning and care
How do I clean shoes?
Clean it by hand with soap and water, scrubbing gently with a sponge or soft brush. Check the specific instructions for the material of your model.
Can I put it in the washing machine?
No. The washing machine can damage the materials, adhesives and shape of the shoes. Cleaning must be done by hand.
How should I dry it?
Let it dry at room temperature, in the shade and away from heat sources. Do not use a dryer or expose it to direct sun.
How long does a pair last?
The duration depends on the frequency of use, the terrain, the way you walk and care. Periodically check the sole, seams and interior for wear.
